The Urban Politician: Civic Knowledge in Practice

Politics shapes everyday life. It influences who makes decisions, how public money is used and whether residents can see themselves in the choices made around them.

The Urban Politician grew from a desire to make those systems easier to understand. Kazemde Ajamu and Gia Compton use conversation, commentary and community experience to examine local government, civic responsibility, leadership, power and the policies that reach into daily life.

This work is not about telling people what to think. It is about helping listeners ask better questions, follow public decisions and recognize where power sits.

The show creates room for frank discussion about the issues affecting Black communities. Guests and listeners are invited to move beyond reaction and consider the history, interests and consequences behind a public decision.

A headline can tell us that something happened. Civic knowledge helps us understand why it happened, who shaped the outcome and where people can enter the process.

Knowledge should lead somewhere. The goal is informed participation, stronger questions and communities better prepared to act on what they know.
